Background art of Alessa
The main elements of the game cover needed to be Harry Mason (the protagonist you play as) and the secondary character Alessa, whose trauma and fears are what created the horrors in the town of Silent Hill. The composition needed to give an uneasy vibe of always being watched, so I played around with a bunch of different overlays and textures. For Harry, I wanted him to face away from the viewer, since in the game all he’s really concerned about is finding his daughter. Inside him is the foggy town itself, to show his connection to the town and why it’s even important to him. For the foreground elements that blend Alessa and Harry together, I wanted it to mimic both trees on a hill but also flames engulfing her, since ritual sacrifice and burnings are a theme in her storyline.

For the poster, I wanted to explore different crops with a subtle overlay of Alessa’s face to continue with that uneasiness; someone is watching
me, feeling. I did a lot of photo editing to the original illustration to get that old, faded photo feeling. Most of the colors chosen were faded oranges and reds, matching the “Otherworld” setting of the game, recognizable to many gamers and fans of the series.
